A quick prerace interview while the swimmers are preparing to get into the water.
Before the race everyone was busy buttering themselves up with various goops to reduce chafing, protect from the sun and maybe stay a little bit warmer.

There were swimmers from around the world at the race. Besides this competitor holding the Mexican flag for a photo op there were swimmers from Australia, Ireland, Italy and California.

Supporters in kayaks will follow the swimmers the whole way around to provide safety and some guidance on the route.
The race starts once everyone is in the water. From here it's just 28.5 miles before they are back here in South Cove.

The proud winner, John Van Wisse from Australia, finished in 7.5 hours. After the equivalent of just under a work day, the top two finishers were only 5 minutes apart.
