With the campaigns last fiestas on Thursday evening, La Paz settled down to be pretty quiet. And today has been quiter still. By law, no cars or buses can be on the roads, so La Paz is experiencing once in five years´clean air, and I´m guessing a lot of people over-slept this morning without the honking horns and rumbling engines rolling by their windows.
This morning I stopped by a nearby voting location for the opening of the vote, and then went up to El Alto to see a few larger polling places. Pretty much everyone expects Evo Morales to win, he scheduled his victory press conference a few days ago, so the remaining question is what will happen in the Legislature. Opinions seem to be mixed, some people I´ve talked to think he has it without a problem, and others expect it to be close. MAS looks like it will hold onto the Chamber of Deputies (equivalent of U.S. Congress) while the Senate looks less sure at this point.
